Broken Promises x Santa Cruz Skateboards

Broken Promises x Santa Cruz Skateboards

In July 2021, Broken Promises teamed up with one of the most iconic names in skateboarding, Santa Cruz Skateboards, to create a collaboration that redefined what it means to combine legacy with emotion.

This unique partnership wasn’t just about nostalgia; it was about blending the hardcore, adrenaline-fueled world of skateboarding with the raw, emotional undercurrent that defines Broken Promises.

The collaboration brought to life over 40 items, spread across four drops, all featuring the iconic Jim Phillips Sr. artwork. Jim Phillips is the legendary artist behind Santa Cruz Skateboards' famous Screaming Hand graphic, a symbol that has become synonymous with skate culture. With Jim Phillips personally signing off on this reinterpretation of his classic designs, Broken Promises took these nostalgic elements and added their signature twist—infusing each piece with emotion and a modern edge.

From hats and slides to long sleeves, short sleeves, and hoodies, the collection captured the essence of both brands. Fans of both Santa Cruz Skateboards and Broken Promises were able to experience the bold, rebellious spirit of skateboarding alongside Broken Promises’ emotionally charged phrases and designs.

As the team at Broken Promises explained, “It was really cool working with them because skating is looked at as a hardcore sport. We were able to give it an emotional twist.” The collaboration wasn’t just about paying homage to skate culture; it was about taking something from the streets of California and blending it with the deeply personal connection that defines Broken Promises.

The collection received massive attention, with Zumiez even posting a thread asking fans, “What’s the coolest brand?” and the overwhelming response was—Broken Promises. Skate fans and streetwear enthusiasts alike couldn’t get enough of the blend between Santa Cruz Skateboards legacy and Broken Promises’ fresh take on emotional expression. The collection also caught the attention of media outlets like Kicks on Fire, adding to its cultural impact.

For anyone who’s ever been on a skateboard or even just admired the culture from afar, this collection stood as a reminder that emotions can be hardcore too.
